Elizabeth Kinsey-James
Elizabeth is an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist offering in person therapy sessions at the Chiltern Clinic as well as online.
Elizabeth qualified at the University of Roehampton in counselling and psychotherapy. She has many years of experience working in therapy clinics in London, and in private practice, with clients with a substantial range of backgrounds and presentations. She is qualified to work with individuals over the age of 16.
Elizabeth offers a safe and supportive space to explore thoughts and feelings, prioritising warmth and empathy. Elizabeth’s approach is relational, meaning it is rooted in a strong relationship between therapist and client, which emphasises collaboration, and provides insight into the client’s patterns of relating to others.
Her style of therapy is integrative, meaning she uses a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on what suits the client and situation best. She offers several types of therapy based on client preference and what is most suitable at the time, including:
- Person-centred: works on the principal that all people can reach their full potential if given the right conditions, and creates a supportive, non-judgemental environment to facilitate growth and increased self-awareness
- Psychodynamic: focuses on the past and childhood experiences and aims to understand how these impact us unconsciously in the present
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): offers proactive strategies to improve our day to day experience, by looking at how our thoughts impact our feeling and behaviours, and challenging and changing these thoughts
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR): re-processes traumatic memories so that they are less impactful and distressing
Elizabeth is registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and is fully insured to practice.
